We Must Overcome Un-Belief

We Must Overcome Un-Belief

The other day I was pondering the question of what exactly IS the “spirit of Un-Belief” and why  is it such an offensive thing that it is mentioned so often by the Lord and His disciples?

I came to understand that a “spirit of unbelief” is not simply the same thing as “not believing.”  It is actually a spirit that keeps us blind to the truth, so that we can’t believe it!  In other words, we don’t even know it is there, because we cannot see the truth!

So, how can we believe something that we don’t see or know?  The truth may be on the page in front of our eyes, or spoken over and over again in our ears, but if the spirit of unbelief is at work, then the truth is never seen or heard!  It is never noticed or understood; so that as the Bible says, “For this reason I speak to them in parables, because seeing they do not see and hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand”….”For the heart of this people has become fat, and with their ears they have heard heavily, and their eyes they have closed, lest they perceive with their eyes and hear with their ears and understand with their heart, and they turn around and I will heal them.” (Matthew 13:13,15 Recovery Version Bible)

That is why we have to confess with our mouths and believe in our hearts that Jesus Christ is Lord!  And if He is Lord of all, He is also King. And if He is King and we are in Him, and a new creation, we must now enter into His kingdom.  We know the kingdom of God came with Jesus, and wherever the King is, He operates according to His kingdom, even in a foreign land. This is true of the world’s Ambassadors and Diplomats.  They don’t necessarily conduct their lives according to the foreign lands they are diplomats in; they are immune to the laws of the land in many instances; because they represent the land and the kingdom or country that they are from.  But if we are a “new creation” living in Christ and believe this to be true, then as we are living in this “distant land,” we must operate according to the laws of the kingdom which we now must represent! We are to represent our King by doing the works of the King, thus demonstrating that He is present in this world, operating through His servants.  We are  now ambassadors of the kingdom of God to the Earth. (See 2 Corinthians 5:15-21)

Many people claim to be “born again,” and yet they show no evidence of this new birth!  They still go forth in their old ways and in accordance to the laws and customs of this fallen world-system.  The Bible makes clear that all the systems of the earth are to fall, and only that which is real and true will remain standing. If Jesus is the King of all that is real and true, then only that which is of His kingdom will stand in the end.  (See Hebrews)  Therefore, we are admonished to walk in the power of His might, and not our own. That means we must conduct ourselves in this world, in the authority of His kingdom— because we are citizens of the reality of the kingdom of Heaven.  We are a new creation, because the blood of Jesus flows in our blood, which gives us a new life, a new future and an new reality!  So, forgetting that which is behind, we are told to press forward to the reality of the high calling that is only in Christ Jesus!  (See Philippians 3: 15-21)

If, where the Lord stands is holy ground, and He is in us, and we are in Him, then wherever we stand is a place of His Kingdom on this earth!   If only we will choose to believe this… and if we will believe this truth, then we can take authority over the lies that we have believed. And in so doing, we can take authority over the spirit of un-belief, so that we can indeed see and hear and understand the truth in front of us.  We can take this authority now, because we are a citizen of the greater Kingdom, and this kingdom will come in all its fullness to this earth!  So we are to walk in the power of His might in order to show the works of the kingdom of heaven and be a witness to Him, knowing that there is no power on this earth that can stand before the Name of the Lord God Almighty, made manifest in Jesus His Son!  And in that Name which is above all names, we shall overcome!
